SUN SCHOOL – will see a reduction in their funding for Jackson and Robert Gray for the 2019-2020 school year. The shortfall is $20,000 per school. Ellie, the Sun School Coordinator, is looking to find community resources so she doesn’t have to shrink the program.
June PTA meeting –
if we have a new principal or have a surplus of funding, we will have a June meeting. If not, we may make the Chrome Book decision by email.
Topics for Discussion:
- Rolling Lockers Forward – Thank you gift cards for the kids that roll the lockers forward need purchased. We need approval for 3 children to help roll the lockers forward. Marci Forbes motions to approve purchase. Michelle Marsden seconds this motion.
- Popcorn & Cookie Dough Fundraiser updates – Kara Murray will lead cookie dough for Jackson next year.
- Boys’ Night Out for next year – Laura Lenseigne – would like to help set up a boys night out next year. Marci suggests starting early to make sure the date is reserved with the school. Jess would like to know what the purpose of boy’s night out. Laura discusses the importance for a boys night out to discuss topics like healthy relationships and practices, consent, other fun activities. Lewis and Clark has a group for empowerment for boys.
- Girls’ Night Out Recap – Marci Forbes – It was attended by 7th and 8th grade girls only. They had less than anticipated participation this time but they feel that is due to the lapse in years. They feel next year will increase beyond this years attendance. Sixty girls signed up; 53 girls attended and 25 volunteers. The night had 5 events to participate in. Female volunteers from Wilson High School led small groups. There were three guest speakers – 1. Recent College Graduate, 2. Portland Police Officer, 3. Girls Strength, 4. Stations – self-defense, dance group, chillax, craft made bracelets, “she” amazing race. At the end of the night, everyone met in the auditorium to perform a dance and a big performance. Girls Night Out proposed dates for next year – March 7th or March 14th for next year.
- Parent Education Nights – May 20th Parenting of Adolescence talks – Jessica Christiansen is hosting this event at school. Handmade Parenting is the speaker that is coming. Jess is wondering if parents would be interested in hosting this.
